The Wehlers Take-Back System in Action: Capital of Children

Our commitment to a full circular economy is best demonstrated by our take-back system, a core component of our business model. For a special event, the Capital of Children—an initiative by the LEGO Group that brought children from around the world to Denmark to make suggestions to UN leaders on sustainability—needed high-quality, sustainable seating. They chose to rent our R.U.M. Chairs. This is how the process works from start to finish:

  1. Rental and Use: The Capital of Children utilized a number of R.U.M. Chairs for their event. This not only provided them with durable, well-designed seating but also allowed them to align with their sustainability goals without a permanent capital investment.

  2. Take-Back: Once the event concluded, we initiated our take-back process. We collected all the chairs from the LEGO Group, ensuring they would not become landfill waste.

  3. Reuse, Recycle, and Repurpose: Each chair was brought back to our facility for assessment.

    • Reuse: Chairs in excellent condition were cleaned, inspected, and made available for future rentals or sale.

    • Recycle: Chairs that showed wear were disassembled. Thanks to our design for disassembly, all materials were easily separated. The recycled plastic and other components were then sent to our partners to be processed into raw materials, ready to be used in the production of new Wehlers products.

  4. Low Carbon Footprint: By extending the life of our chairs through reuse and recycling, we drastically reduce the need for new materials and energy. This closed-loop system ensures that the carbon footprint of each chair is minimized, offering a truly sustainable solution that benefits both our clients and the planet.

This successful partnership with the LEGO Group exemplifies how our take-back system provides a sustainable, low-carbon solution for businesses, reinforcing our leadership in the circular economy.
