1. DGNB Interior: Key Reporting Areas

The DGNB System for Interiors is structured around six quality areas. Products like our R.U.M. chairs primarily contribute to the Environmental (ENV), Socio-cultural and Functional (SCA), and Technical Quality (TEC) sections.

ENV (Environmental Quality)

We provide full documentation on material composition, recyclability, and resource consumption, directly addressing criteria like "Life Cycle Assessment" and "Responsible Resource Procurement."

SCA (Socio-Cultural Quality)

Our furniture ensures high ergonomic and acoustic quality, contributing to criteria focused on "User Comfort," "Health," and "Indoor Air Quality" (low VOC/formaldehyde emissions).

TEC (Technical Quality)

The durability and circular design of the R.U.M. chair support long-term use and high potential for recycling, satisfying requirements for "Deconstructability" and "Flexibility of Adaptation."

2. UN Global Sustainability Targets: Max CO₂ per m²

While the UN does not set specific national building regulations, its Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 13: Climate Action) and global climate agreements (e.g., Paris Agreement) drive ambitious **embodied and operational carbon targets** in the construction sector worldwide. These targets represent the best practice required to achieve net-zero carbon by 2050.

Targeting Net-Zero Construction

The following figures, derived from EU standards like Level(s) and global Green Building Council best practices, represent the maximum accepted life-cycle CO₂ emissions for new buildings by 2030.

Embodied Carbon Max Target (A1-A5)

75

kg CO₂e / m²

(Emissions from product manufacturing, construction, and transport)

Total Life Cycle Carbon Max Target (A1-C4)

400

kg CO₂e / m²

(Total emissions including operation, maintenance, and end-of-life)

Wehlers' Contribution: By using highly recycled and recyclable materials in products like R.U.M., we significantly reduce the **Embodied Carbon (A1-A3)** attributed to the interior fit-out, helping project developers meet these critical global thresholds.
