The R.U.M. Process: Recycle, Upcycle, Manufacture
Every step in the R.U.M. Chair's creation is a testament to circular innovation. We take a problem—ocean plastic—and transform it into a solution—a durable, beautiful piece of furniture.
Rescue from the Ocean
Our project with The Ocean Cleanup is the foundation. By supporting their work, we ensure plastic is collected directly from rivers and the ocean before it can cause further damage to marine life. This plastic forms the clean, recycled raw material. It is an example on how Wehlers work closely together with companies, to start the FULL circular economy. Once waste is collected, then never waste again.

Material UpCycling from post consumer waste
The collected plastic undergoes an extensive upcycling process. It is meticulously sorted, thoroughly cleaned, and granulated into small, uniform pellets. This step is crucial to ensure the material has the necessary strength and quality to become a premium furniture piece.

Molding and Finishing
The recycled pellets are injection molded under high pressure into the precise shape of the R.U.M. Chair. This high-tech manufacturing ensures minimal waste, as any excess material is immediately reused. The result is a robust, lightweight, and stackable chair, built to last for generations.

A Piece of Furniture With Purpose
The R.U.M. Chair is living proof that waste can become design. Every chair removes a tangible piece of plastic from our planet and contributes to solving the global plastic crisis.
