The Take-Back System: Our FULL Circular Economy in Action
At Wehlers, our mission to build a more sustainable future goes far beyond the materials we use. We believe that true responsibility extends to the entire life of a product—from its design to its eventual return. This belief is the foundation of our take-back system, which is our promise to you and the planet that we will close the loop on waste.
What is the Take-Back System?
The Wehlers take-back system is a core part of our FULL circular economy model. Unlike the traditional "take-make-dispose" approach, where products are made for one-time use and then discarded, we have designed our chairs with their end in mind. This means every R.U.M. Chair is built with the full expectation that it will one day be returned to our hands to be reused, remanufactured, or recycled into a new product.
This isn't a simple recycling service; it's a closed-loop system that ensures valuable materials never become waste. For us, every chair is an asset that we look forward to handling more than once.
How it Works
The process is designed to be simple and seamless for you, while being powerfully effective for the planet.
-
A Product's First Life: You purchase a durable, high-quality R.U.M. Chair, which is already made from clean, recycled materials.
-
The End of Use: When you no longer need the chair, simply contact us.
-
Collection and Return: We will arrange to have the chair picked up and returned to Wehlers.
-
Repair, Remanufacture, or Recycle: Once the chair is back, our team assesses its condition.
-
Repair/Remanufacture: If the chair is in good shape, we repair and refurbish it for a new home. This is the most effective form of circularity, as it requires minimal energy and resources.
-
Recycle: If the chair is beyond repair, it is disassembled. Because we use clean, unmixed materials, the components can be easily sorted and sent back to the factory to be turned into a new R.U.M. Chair. This ensures that valuable materials stay in the loop and out of landfills.

Why a FULL Circular Economy is Better
The difference between a simple take-back program and our FULL circular economy is material purity. We avoid mixing different plastics or adding "ugly substances" like glass fiber because these materials cannot be easily and fully recycled. Our design brief demands that we use pure materials that can be disassembled and recycled into a new product without losing their integrity.
This is how we ensure our products have a low carbon footprint and that we can enjoy selling the R.U.M. Chair more than once—for the sake of both our business and the planet. It's a system where every choice contributes to a future with less waste and a healthier environment.
