The Official Wehlers PEF Report: Quantified Environmental Footprint
R.U.M. Chair Interactive PEF Report
An analysis by Quantified Impacts
Understanding the Product Environmental Footprint (PEF)
The Product Environmental Footprint (PEF) methodology provides a comprehensive, life-cycle-based measurement of a product's environmental performance. It allows for transparent, credible, and comparable assessment of environmental impact across 16 standardized categories.
Our commitment to transparency means we've partnered with the specialist consultancy, **Quantified Impacts**, to ensure the rigorous calculation and validation of our R.U.M. chair's PEF. This report showcases the results of that analysis and explores the key design choices that led to its exceptionally low environmental footprint.
Key Findings: Why the Low Impact?
The R.U.M. chair's exceptionally low PEF is not an accident. It is the result of deliberate design and sourcing decisions. Click the tabs below to explore each key factor.
Recycled Materials
Over 90% of the material mass in the R.U.M. chair is derived from recycled sources. This includes recycled ocean plastic (e.g., fishing nets) for the shell and recycled steel for the frame. Using recycled content drastically reduces the demand for virgin resources and the energy associated with their extraction and processing.

Methodology
To ensure accuracy and alignment with best practices, this assessment by **Quantified Impacts** strictly followed:
- Assessment Scope: A "cradle-to-gate" assessment was performed, analyzing all impacts from raw material extraction through to the finished product leaving the factory gate.
- Guiding Rules: The assessment adheres to the latest **EU PEF Category Rules (PEFCR)** for the furniture sector.
- Data Sources: A mix of high-fidelity primary data (from Wehlers and its suppliers) and secondary data (from recognized life-cycle-inventory databases) was used.
- Impact Categories: The full 16 PEF-mandated impact categories were assessed, including climate change, resource use, water scarcity, and more.
